Captain Marvel Review

CAPTAIN MARVEL REVIEW

SCORE - 7/10

Filled with complex characters and some good comedy, Captain Marvel comes off as a surprisingly good film amidst all the hate the movie has received by audiences and has certainly exceeded many expectations.
Brie Larson has done a good job as the main lead but the highlight of the movie was the adorable chemistry between the cat Goose and Nick Fury. The Kree-Skrull was good enough to invest your time in it and the plot-twist about the Skrulls is something you won’t surely expect.
The writers dragged the movie’s first act which was not at all a serious problem. Jude Law’s character is quite complex but the problem is that he wasn’t given enough screen time which was a huge mistake for you won’t even remember the name of a character who had the potential to be as complex as Loki himself.
The Supreme Intelligence of The Krees’ offered some character defining moments for Carol Danvers but that’s all about the Krees, they weren’t explored enough which could be done in the sequel.
Clarke Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson may not have much screen time but a couple of scenes were enough to build the trust Nick Fury has in him in the First Avengers’ film or in the Agents Of The Shield T.V. Show.
Overall, the movie was far better than the mediocre Ant-Man movies which mean it is worth a watch.
The mid-credit scene serves a lot of importance for Avengers: Endgame.

Venom Review

VENOM REVIEW

SCORE - 6.5/10

Even when it had good comedy and action sequences and great acting from the cast, ‘Venom’ falls into the endless pit of mediocre films thanks to its poorly paced script and cliched story. Even the short runtime was responsible for the failure as it denied the characters from any sort of proper development.

Though the movie took the wrong route in a lot of areas it did do Venom right. The symbiote from outer-space who has been a well-known nemesis of ‘Spider-Man’ was interpreted as a straight out evil character with zero emotions in Sam Raimi’s third Spider-Man film and was portrayed the same way in many of the animated adaptations of the character. But ‘Venom’ took a different route as opposed to its predecessors and that was being honest to the comics. Venom was not as funny as he was in this movie but it did manage to show the inner struggle of Venom and its host – Eddie Brock which instantly makes both of them likable.
The major mistake and disappointment was Riot, the villain of the story who suffered from the same problem every other character suffered from – insufficient screen time. He was portrayed as another generic villain with a lame, ‘Conquering the world’ evil motivation. Even the ‘Life Foundation’ and it’s head Carlton Drake who was constantly mentioned to have a strong and powerful influence was only mentioned to have it and was never really shown properly when it had the chance to.
The only other thing left to say is to wait for the mid-credit scene as it sets up a potential sequel.

Ant-Man And The Wasp Review

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP REVIEW

SCORE - 8/10

Coming in as a sequel to one of the most forgettable MCU films ‘Ant-Man’, ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp’ manages to be better than that and has enough substance in it to keep the audience engaged. Michael Pena’s Luis gives the comedic tone that was much needed for this film to avoid being a mediocre one. Paul Rudd too, along with being a superhero also provides some warmth to the film.
‘The Ghost’ can be considered as a disappointing villain which means that it broke Marvel’s streak of good villains that started with Ego in 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' and ended with Thanos in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.
The film had a lot of forced exposition and weak, unnatural character development.
The film digs deeper and explores the Quantum Realm, giving us a clue of what could happen in ‘Avengers 4’. Also, the post-credits are directly connected to the ending of ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’

Jurassic World: A Fallen Kingdom Review

JURASSIC WORLD: A FALLEN KINGDOM REVIEW

SCORE - 6/10

After a disappointing Jurassic World, the Jurassic franchise found back its mojo by the well-written and directed – A Fallen Kingdom.

The film does a good job by setting up the plot points early so that the finale of the film is given justice by not making it bloated with uninteresting plot reveals and also sets up the plot for its sequel by ending the film in a reasonable way which many other billion-dollar franchises like the Star Wars or the DCEU failed to do so.

Each and every character, irrespective of the screen time, is given proper character moments and a satisfying character arc. The other great thing the film did was to bring back the Spielberg’s old ‘Fraction-action’ method of suspense that made the original Jurassic Park a classic to remember.
The main foe of the film, the Indo-rapture, was shown as an actual threat rather than a joke the Indominous Rex was in Jurassic World.
Apart from these, the film also developed many other things that were present since the beginning of the franchise or will continue to be. For example, the relation between Owen and his pet Velociraptor Blue is now based on the choice and takes a new turn. The character of Dr. Henry Wu is given a bit of deeper complexity. These changes make the characters more interesting and worthy enough to care about them.
Overall, the film was neatly done and is a thrilling ride worth going.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Review

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY REVIEW

SCORE - 8/10

Unlike the previous ten STAR WARS films, ‘SOLO’ is set in a lawless world, a world where the crime syndicates rule and not in a world where there is a constant war between the light and the dark side of the force. The film has a good start with this concept and it maintains this for the most part of the runtime.

The third act of the film makes the audience anticipate something great and then is ruined with too many attempts at surprises and plot twists. The film’s ending is then dragged only for the ORIGINAL TRILOGY(EPISODE IV-VI) Easter Eggs.
Even though Paul Bettany’s character Dryden Vos lacked a proper screen time and was poorly written, he manages it by delivering a good acting performance. Even his fellow co-stars never compromised in doing their best.
Ron Howard should be credited for changing a-doomed-to-be-failed kind of film into an entertaining and a worthy inclusion into the STAR WARS franchise.
STAR WARS films are known for having an unnecessary sub-plot(s) and in this one, it is about escaping a place called ‘The Maw’, with no consequences at all and was also the most boring part.
The core of the film revolves around a hyper fuel called ‘Coaxiom’ which is shown both as a boon and a threat if not handled properly as it is powerful enough to take down an entire mountain and can make a Kessel Run in twelve parsecs.
Overall, SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY manages to be a good film that the divided STAR WARS fan base needs at the moment until Episode XI drops next year. It could be said that the production was rushed but it was still good unlike how it was predicted to be.

Avengers: Infinity War Review

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR REVIEW

SCORE - 9.5/10

The effort put by Marvel and Kevin Feige in the past decade finally pays off. Avengers: Infinity War is not your typical MCU film. The movie delivers on all the hype with blistering action, humor, and great acting performances.
The show-stealing performance was of Thanos, the biggest villain in the MCU played by veteran actor Josh Brolin. Unlike most of the Marvel villains, Thanos is an emotionally-driven villain.

Tomb Raider (2018) Review

TOMB RAIDER (2018) REVIEW

SCORE - 7/10

The new Tomb Raider movie is the first good movie based on a video game. Though the narrative felt weak at times, this realistic take on Lara Croft gave us the type of Tomb Raider movie we have been waiting for. Everyone played their parts as good as possible but the less experienced supporting cast didn't do well. The missing of a proper third act is also a small pothole which the future installments, if any, are expected to cover.

Black Panther Review

BLACK PANTHER REVIEW

SCORE - 9/10

The Black Panther has been an equal treat of fantastic visuals and a compelling story. Chadwick Boseman gave an amazing performance as the titular character but the show-stealing performance was that of Michael .B. Jordan’s role as the villain – Erik Killmonger. Apart from the gripping backstory, the King’s Dead OST by Kendrick Lamar dwelled deeper into the psychology of the villain. It was mentioned in one of the press tours that Killmonger has been inspired from Heath Ledger’s iconic role as ‘The Joker’ from the cinematic landmark film – ‘The Dark Knight’ and it truly was. Both the characters, though were quite different from one another, shared similar kind of attitude.

Unlike the previous Marvel outings, Black Panther took place in its own universe. The scientifically and technologically advanced country of Wakanda was beautifully designed. From the underground labs to the beautiful waterfalls, everything was very well detailed. Though it was not much influenced by the other movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it laid a perfect foundation for the much-awaited film of the year, Avengers: Infinity War which hits theatres on April 27th in India and May 4th in the U.S.

Martin Freeman performance as C.I.A. agent Everett Ross and Andy Serkis performance as Ulysses Klaue were short but great. The movie did meet the high hopes and expectations the fans had.
Final Words – Watch it.
